"I think that once I get to Augusta, one excuse I won't have is not being prepared and being under-golfed, and I'll have played a lot of tournament golf leading up to it", he said. "I'm obviously in a good position heading to the weekend, with two rounds at Pebble Beach".

He only slightly exaggerated, but not by much. The evidence of the different day he faced came early. But he has reshaped his story the past two years, with eight victories since the start of 2016 - including an emphatic, demon-conquering triumph in the '16 U.S. Open at Oakmont.

And her hard work wasn't done there, with the 28-year-old American knocking a tricky right to left putt straight into the hole.

"But I was right behind the tree, " he said.

Sharing sixth alongside world No.1 Dustin Johnson, who shot a 67 at Spyglass Hill, Percy admits he was rusty. "Made a good bogey on 16".

However, Lowry is best placed of the Irish at three under after Paul Dunne made two late bogeys to slip from two under back to level par after a round of 72 at Monterey Peninsula.

Day One of the AT&T Pebble Beach ProAm got started under blue skies bringing out stars to have fun in the sun.

Troy Merritt (67 SH) and Julian Suri (67 MP) are tied for third at 10-under. He won in 2010 with a 74 in the final round.

And there were a lot of positives to take from a sunny day at Pebble Beach with minimal wind.

After a slow start Thursday at Spyglass Hill - he was 2 over par through 11 holes - Mickelson has played his last 25 holes in 11 under par.

Dwyane Wade Traded By Cavs To Heat
It will be interesting to see how Wade is received back in Miami and what his role will be moving forward. Wade averaged 19 points, 4.6 assists and 4.1 rebounds in his season with Dragic.

Day and Mickelson fired six-under 65s on Monterey Peninsula, with Aaron Wise, Kevin Streelman and Steve Stricker joining the group in a tie for fifth.

Defending champion Jordan Spieth was not among them.

"Pebble's a little bit tougher because the greens are a little firmer and smaller", he said, "but if you play well you can birdie and score low on all three".

He ended up five-putting for a double bogey, his round falling apart. He missed a birdie chance from three feet on the par-five 13th hole, which was annoying because he didn't have many looks like that.

He shared the lead to par with Hossler, who added another strong memory from northern California. On Saturday, the issue was less with the flat stick and more with his irons.

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tees it up this week on the Monterey Peninsula.

This week the tour heads north to the Monterey Peninsula for the playing of the AT&T National Pro-Am. "But if I keep playing like I am and how I should, I'll be there at the end of the year".

Golf doesn't anoint its winners, though it might be tempted to do so with Dustin Johnson, in the lead, at Pebble Beach. All three players in closest pursuit - Rahm, Spieth and Thomas - are 24 or younger, creating much chatter about golf's young studs and occasionally overshadowing Johnson.

"I bowled 11 in a row, " he said, breaking into a smile, "and then I gassed it". Even with three bogeys on the back nine that stalled his momentum, his 70 was the ninth consecutive time he broke par.

Westwood and Rumford had 36-hole totals of 8-under 136.
