US Intelligence: ISIS Used chemical Weapons In 'numerous' Attacks In Iraq, Syria

Dan Coats

FBI Director Christopher Wray, CIA Director Mike Pompeo, and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats joined other intelligence heads by offering testimony on worldwide threats facing the US and its allies on Capitol Hill on Tuesday.

Trump has steadfastly denied any collusion took place. The fighting took place on February 7 and 8 in eastern Syria between pro-regime forces and fighters from the US -led coalition against the Islamic State. On fringe of Russian Federation, he explained that greatest cyber threats to first power come from China, North Korea, and Iran.

Lawmakers, however, were dissatisfied that a proper road-map to fixing and preventing the issue of cyberattacks on the US has not yet been established. Sen.

But Sen. Angus King, a ME independent who caucuses with Democrats, argued that Trump's refusal to acknowledge Russia's role in 2016 makes collective federal action impossible.

"The provocative nature and the instability Kim has demonstrated is potentially a significant threat to the United States".

The CIA stood ready to identify elements of Russia's information campaign and work with domestic law enforcement to respond, he said, suggesting it could go on the attack if needed.

American officials, however, have tried to threaten Russian Federation before to stop its interference campaign. "And North Korea will continue to use cyber operations to raise funds, launch attacks and gather intelligence against the United States".

Other times, Trump or White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders call the stories about the interference, or its investigation, a hoax perpetuated by sore-loser Democrats.

Coats said state efforts to modernise, develop, or acquire WMD, their delivery systems, or their underlying technologies constitute a major threat to the security of the United States, its deployed troops, and its allies.

Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the ranking Democrat on the committee, said it's been more than a year since the 2016 election, but the US still has no plan to battle foreign interference in elections.

Coats, which coordinates all intelligence services, explained that Moscow considers intrusion into voting processes-through cyber to steal information and/or disseminate propaganda-a "tool of low risk and effective in propitiating divisions ".

He added Pakistan was "drawing closer to China", a country that is increasingly described by Americans - especially the Trump administration - as a threat, a rival and a "strategic competitor" to the US.

--This rather vague claim about social media use, which is not any sort of hacking, only emerged later after the initial claims of "Russian hacking" didn't really take.

He said he's been "gratified" by the response he's received from companies when trying to educate them, but noted the bigger challenge is innovation - smaller start up companies with less sophisticated measures to prevent cyberattacks. US' intelligence chief has issued a warning that these weapons include short-range tactical missiles that bring more risks to the whole region.

He said that Russian Federation will "continue using propaganda, social media, false flag personas and sympathetic spokesmen to build on its wide range of operations and exacerbate social and political issues in the U.S".

"Russian intelligence services will continue their efforts to disseminate false information via Russian state-controlled media and covert online personas about U.S. activities to encourage anti-US political views", the report said.

Three of the nation's top intelligence officials told senators Tuesday that they've already seen Russian activity aimed at meddling in the upcoming midterm elections and combating these and future efforts is a top priority of the Trump administration.

When the panel was asked by Sen.

FBI Director Christopher Ray said he had notice more "forward leaning" engagement with the private sector.

"Everyone in our agency of government understands the threat we have here and the impact being made through these cyber threats".

Coats also remarked that the running out of time to mitigate the threat posed by North Korea, Reuters.

North Korea's inclusion in the Winter Olympics, now being held in South Korea, has led some to hope that the tensions permeating from the Korean peninsula will begin to subside, but most experts have warned that such a conclusion is unlikely. James Risch (R., Idaho) said the threat of North Korea is "at our doorstep". He also advised that "we should not be misled" by recent events in the Olympics.
