Ex-beauty queen with rare condition wakes up with British accent

Former American beauty queen mysteriously woke up with British accent - but has never been abroad

Getting a headache and going to bed to sleep it off is nothing out of the ordinary, but for an Arizona woman it took a freakish turn when she woke up with a foreign accent.

Myers continues to suffer pain from her Ehers-Danlo disorder. But her British accent still lingers to this day, two years after her first symptoms appeared.

"Everybody only sees or hears Mary Poppins", she said to ABC.

Michelle Myers, the woman in question, has never left the United States, but somehow she can uncannily speak in a posh British accent and lingo. Michelle Myers's said that she has gone to bed with extreme headaches in the past and woke up speaking with what sounds like a foreign accent, The Washington Post reported. The further added that Myers suffers from a rare condition called Foreign Accent Syndrome (FAS) - a condition usually associated with neurological damage.

Myers's situation is especially peculiar since her accent doesn't sound like a speech disruption-on the contrary, it comes across as quite refined.

"When I was a little girl I used to always go to my mom and say, 'my bones hurt", said Myers. According to doctors, this condition, although extremely rare, is indeed real.

Colts Hire Eagles Offensive Coordinator Frank Reich As Head Coach
Colts general manager Chris Ballard was left to explain the embarrassing circumstances in which McDaniels reneged on a deal. Reich took someone in Foles who had 10 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions in 2015 and 2016 for the St.

She has also been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which causes bruising and painful joints, and, for the time being, it's also turned her British.

FAS was first documented in 1907, when French neurologist Pierre Marie surveyed a Parisian man who suffered a stroke and suddenly spoke with an Alsatian accent, although he was not from the French-German border region where the language is spoken.

With such a rare disease, there aren't many resources dedicated to research. While accent changes may not be as severe as the underlying damage from other illness or medical emergencies, they do have a noted effect on Myers' sense of self. This alters the way the person speaks (the rhythm and tone, for example), causing their speech to sound like a foreign accent. After about a week it seemed to correct itself on its own, but months later another headache brought about an Australian accent.

She said it's hard to watch old videos of herself speaking normally. "The person I am now has been through so much compared to this person".

And Myers is exhausted of people not taking her seriously.

But she's not insane and she's not faking it, according to her doctors. While the origins of her condition aren't now clear other than the connection to a chronic illness, she honestly doesn't care where the accent changes came from - only that she receives the help that she needs.
