Immigration attorney, a Dreamer himself, weighs in on immigration debate

Trump's move to end DACA program blocked by second US judge

A Brooklyn federal judge on Tuesday impeded President Donald Trump's decision to end a program that protects immigrants brought to the USA illegally as children from deportation, a ruling similar but more broad than a California judge's previous decision to keep the program last month.

U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis in NY ruled Tuesday that Attorney General Jeff Sessions had "erred in concluding that DACA is unconstitutional" and granted a preliminary injunction sought by state attorneys general and immigrants who had sued the administration.

In a preliminary ruling, he ordered the government to keep processing DACA applications and renewal requests, echoing the January 9 ruling of a judge in San Francisco.

He even used Mr. Trump's own tweets as evidence that the DACA program was ended precipitously, pointing to President Trumps's claims that he could "revisit this issue" as proof the program could have been continued.

As of right now, around March 5 there are many students whose DACA will expire and will not be renewable.

Percentage of DACA enrollees who had their status revoked because of criminal or gang activity.

"Today's ruling reflects not only the illegality of the Trump Administration's move to rescind DACA, but also the clear and demonstrable benefits DACA provides to New Yorkers across our great state".

The Supreme Court is scheduled to conference later this week on the Trump administration's request that it be allowed to bypass the appellate circuit and have the nation's highest court take up its argument against Alsup's injunction.

Colts general manager Chris Ballard was left to explain the embarrassing circumstances in which McDaniels reneged on a deal. Reich took someone in Foles who had 10 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions in 2015 and 2016 for the St.

The new GOP plan also includes a number of restrictions on federal judges, to keep them from overturning decisions made by immigration officials on visa revocations, naturalization applications, as well as other specific immigration decisions by the Secretary of Homeland Security.

"The question before the court is thus not whether Defendants could end the DACA program, but whether they offered legally adequate reasons for doing so", the order says.

"The Justice Department argues that DACA was an illegal overreach by the Obama White House, and was likely to be overturned in court".

9, a federal judge ruled to block the Trump administration's decision to end DACA.

The San Francisco judge ordered the government to process renewal applications from people who had previously been covered, but not for those who had never before received protection under the scheme. "As such, it was an unlawful circumvention of Congress", the Justice Department said in a statement.

The Senate's top Democrat, Chuck Schumer of NY, quickly objected.

Trump has proposed providing a pathway to citizenship for up to 1.8 million people in exchange for billions for his border wall, and major changes to the legal immigration system.
