Desmond Tutu quits Oxfam role because of dismay at 'immorality'

It was reported last week that some Oxfam staff paid for sex with prostitutes in Haiti while in the country after the devastating 2010 natural disaster.

The spokeswoman said Singh was re-hired "in an emergency as a short-term consultant" to respond to an emergency in Ethiopia and continued work on that contract between October and December 2011.

Oxfam are now looking at whether any issues about his conduct were raised in the African country and say it highlights the need for a "sector-wide approach to the vetting and recruitment".

Following allegations that the men were paying sex workers, some of whom were alleged to be underage, four men including Mr Singh were sacked and three others, including the country director Roland van Hauwermeiren were allowed to leave before the investigation concluded.

The Glastonbury founder has said he will stand by the charity despite recent reports of abuse and sexual misconduct. He told them his account would make the media "blush with shame".

"It is not that I deny everything".

Senior staff have already left the charity, and the threat of losing its right to operate in Haiti heaps pressure on Oxfam. There are things that are described correctly.

"Parties every week? Chic villas?"

The school's football team tweeted: 'It is with Great sadness that our Football Family has learned about the death of Aaron Feis . A spokesperson from the school's football team told CNN that Feis was a "kind soul...a very nice man...[and] died a hero".

In further developments, the charity said it also sacked its Haiti country director a year ago following allegations of "mismanagement" and "inappropriate behaviour".

"As soon as the allegations were reported via Oxfam's whistleblowing line, they were investigated and the individual was dismissed".

The British charity has come under sharp criticism for its handling of allegations that staff members hired prostitutes in Haiti following the devastating 2010 natural disaster.

"No organisation is too big, or our work with them too complex, for me to hesitate to remove funding from them if we can not trust them to put the beneficiaries of aid first", she said.

Also on Thursday, British International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt and the director of the UK National Crime Agency discussed next steps regarding the Oxfam revelations.

The Government has written to all British charities working overseas demanding "absolute assurances" that they are protecting vulnerable people and referring complaints to authorities. The aid industry is a magnet for good people to try and do good work.

The International Development Committee is to hold an urgent session on Tuesday to question Oxfam UK's chief executive Mark Goldring and its chair of trustees, Caroline Thomson.
