Uber CEO wants the 'love back' after rough 2017

Uber’s losses swell to RM18 billion in 2017

Mr Khosrowshahi took over from ousted co-founder Travis Kalanick late previous year. From Susan Fowler's explosive blog post about sexual harassment to changes in senior management to multiple legal issues, including a long-drawn battle over the theft of trade secrets from rival Google subsidiary Waymo - things just kept getting worse for Uber. 'I thought he really held up well, and spoke his mind.

"I think the Waymo settlement to some extent was a part of that". During the past one year, there were lots of controversies associated with this ride-hailing company creating a negative impression and rising difficulty for them.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, whose company just stared down that same question late a year ago as it negotiated a high-stakes deal with the $100 billion fund, gave voice to that intellectual exercise today as he offered an overview of his business to Goldman Sachs clients and investors.

Despite the eye-popping figures, Uber is making headway on slowing the bleeding. The results released earlier this week showed Uber pared its fourth-quarter loss by 25 percent from the third quarter, a modestly encouraging sign. The San Francisco, California-based firm narrowed its quarterly loss by 26-percent sequentially, whereas its revenue rose 14-percent to $11.1 billion in the final three months of 2017.

Uber's results are hard to decipher because it only divulges pieces of data, taking advantage of its status as a privately held company.

PlayStation VR holiday deal to make a comeback this February
The package has a sticker price of $299.99 when what's inside is basically similar with that of the Gran Turismo bundle. It's swings and roundabouts for VR fans with one system getting a price cut and another having a price increase.

A person briefed on the results provided some numbers and confirmed the accuracy of The Information's story to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Uber is looking to partner with autonomous-vehicle companies, the CEO said, adding that the company is prepared to slowly integrate autonomous vehicles in its network filled with human drivers. The CEO said that while he's somewhat uncomfortable running a money-losing business after joining from profit-generating Expedia Inc., it's the right strategy for Uber.

But now, free of some of the legal distractions, Khosrowshahi says that he starting focus more on the business and stoke its rapid growth.

"If you draw that out further, a year from now, this could be a significant IPO waiting to happen", he said.
