The real reason Kate Middleton didn't wear black at the 2018 BAFTAs

Being a member of British royalty is a job that's changed a lot over

The sartorial blackout has been adopted by the Time's Up movement as a visual protest, drawing a "black line" under sexual harassment and exploitation in the movie industry. "It's a woman thing!", read one tweet, while another stated, "can someone please sit me down and explain why Kate Middleton couldn't wear black for a few hours for an important cause?".

Rebecca, who is due in the second quarter of the year, opted for diamond encrusted bangles on each wrist, one of the bangles was black and white diamonds while wearing her hair up and off of her face. This will be Rebecca's second child. So while Middleton might have been encouraged not to take a direct stance by wearing all black, she may have given a subtle nod to the movement by wearing a black sash and carrying a black clutch.

All eyes were on pregnant Duchess Catherine over the weekend when she attended the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (more commonly known as BAFTA) Awards on the arm of her husband Prince William over the weekend.

Some people came to Middleton's defense and said the duchess was just following royal protocol. "The women on twitter tonight shaming the duchess for wearing dark green need to give their pretend feminist heads a shake!" According to Hanson, the royal family only tends to wear black when it comes to funerals, court mourning, or remembrance services. While nearly all the stars in London donned black, Kate Middleton was a glaring exception.

Actress Andrea Riseborough chose to bring UK Black Pride co-founder Phyll Opoku-Gyimah as her guest, while Gemma Arterton, who starred in the stage version of 2010 film Made In Dagenham, brought two of the original 1968 Dagenham Ford factory pay campaigners, Gwen Davis and Eileen Pullen.

Said Smith-Pelly to the Star: "I can't go to anyone on my team and have them understand really how it is to be in my shoes". While sitting in the box, the Capitals player said , he was taunted by four Blackhawks fans who chanted, " basketball ".

Actresses Lupita Nyong'o, Emma Watson, Jennifer Lawrence, Margot Robbie, Saoirse Ronan and Angelina Jolie all sported black on the red carpet.

Kate Middleton and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, at Commonwealth Fashion Exchange reception.

Leading Actor nominees Daniel Day Lewis, Daniel Kaluuya, Gary Oldman, Jamie Bell and Timothee Chalamet also graced the red carpet, as did Hugh Grant, who was up for Supporting Actor for his role in Paddington 2.

Kate's choice found a middle way between making a political statement - something the royal family scrupulously avoids - and ignoring the gesture by wearing a bright color.
