Toddler hacks mum's iPhone and locks her out for 48 years

Chinese toddler 'disables iPhone for 47 years'

One mother in Shanghai learnt this the hard way, after she left her iPhone with her two-year-old son so he could watch educational videos, reported Chinese media. When she got home, Lu discovered her iPhone had been disabled for 25 million minutes, or a total of 47 years, reports Chinese news site Kankanews.com via South China Morning Post. Her child repeatedly entered wrong passcodes on the iPhone which triggered the lockdown.

The way that Apple's security system works is that the time your phone will remain locked will keep increasing with each failed password attempt. For the eighth, it's 15 minutes, and for the ninth, it's 60 minutes. Not only might they start playing catch with it, but you also run the risk of being locked out of your device for nearly five decades. It can happen on any iOS-based device as they are created to lock down for some time when someone enters an incorrect passcode multiple times. The toddler did this by entering the wrong password too many times.

This was probably what happened to the toddler.

The technician, named as Wei Chunlong, also told the website that there had been cases of phones locked for the equivalent of over 80 years by the same method.

US Aircraft Carrier to Visit Vietnam
Fuller, the commander of the Carl Vinson strike group, whose father served in Vietnam. Huynh Quang Nguyen, a taxi driver, said he was "happy and excited" about the visit.

The mother, identified only by her surname, Lu, said she took her eye off her son for long enough for him to lock the phone for nearly five decades.

Lu had tried to wait out the problem hoping it would fix itself, but this has not materialized after two months.

Others said she should have backed up the data stored on her phone elsewhere so that if something went wrong she could easily retrieve it.

A phone technician at an Apple store in Shanghai was quoted as saying that the woman could either wait years to try to input her passcode again or wipe the contents of the handset clean and then reinstall files.
