Apple demands $1 billion from Samsung for patent infringement

Had Apple not released the iPhone, it anxious that mobile carriers could easily make the iPod obsolete by adding music to their phones, which served as a "gigantic threat" to the company and its mainstay media player. "After looking into the historical meaning of the phrase 'article of manufacture, ' it's clear Congress didn't intend for someone to be able to patent a design for a screen and get the profits from the whole phone". It infringed three design patents and two utility patents awarded to Apple to cover early models of its popular smartphone. "That is what the law requires". Those testimonies brought some insight into the iPhone design process and more.

Now, the argument boils down to an even smaller part of that payment.

Apple then took the smartphone market by storm due to how it packaged technology, rather than developing the technology itself. Lee argued that the iPhone's design is a major part of what made it a top seller, and that Samsung deliberately copied the black screen, rounded corners, bezels and application layout to boost sales. Samsung is now urging the jury to minimize the demanded damage recovery sum as much as possible. "To make something exactly like the iPhone". Morrison & Foerster partner Harold McElhinny, who once played the leading role for Apple, has retired and partner Rachel Krevans, who also represented the Cupertino, California-based company died previous year.

The Supreme Court's ruling allows Samsung to argue that damages should be based on the profits it made off the specific components that were found to infringe Apple patents - rather than the entire device.

After the latest retrial, Samsung, Apple and Intel are scheduled to stand together in the USA trade watchdog FTC's suit against Qualcomm for the latter's alleged attempt to charge its customers for patented technology that it did not actually use. Already, Apple won one major patent against Samsung which was an infringement case.

OIC to meet in Istanbul Friday to mull Israel violence
According to an OIC statement, the summit is being convened at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan . The government declared three days of mourning.

Apple and Samsung are now fighting it out again.

Now, the company is appealing the damages in a new case, which began on Monday.

In 2012, a jury sided with Apple on its infringement claims and awarded the company $1.05 billion in damages.

Samsung was ordered to pay over a billion dollars to Apple, but that amount was later lowered to roughly $340 million.

Only $400 million of that total is at stake during this retrial, which is expected to last through the week.
