Trudeau says Canadians can officially expect marijuana legalization in October

Canada will be the first G7 country to allow the cultivation distribution and sale of the drug for recreational purposes nationwide once the law comes into force

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says recreational marijuana will become legal in Canada on october 17.

On Tuesday, June 19, 2018, Canadian Senators made global history by passing a law that made Canada the first G7 nation to legalize the adult recreational use of cannabis. Now that it's passed through both houses of Parliament, Trudeau has to decide the date when legalization is official.

Trudeau administration had initially meant to have the law rolled out by July 2018, but territories and provinces requested for additional time to come up with their own rules for weed sales.

The legislation will allow Canadians to buy and consume weed as soon as September, the BBC reports. It's a similar problem plaguing legal cannabis businesses in the USA, resulting in scenarios that include California weed businesses paying their taxes in cash.

Quebec, Manitoba, and Nunavut all want to forbid their citizens from growing recreational marijuana at home, even after cannabis is legalized federally.

The prime minister says marijuana will be legal nationwide from 17 October in a move that he hopes will take the market away from organised crime.

Any further delay seems unlikely as Prime Minister Trudeau has promised to implement the law as quickly as possible.

On Wednesday, he tweeted, "It's been too easy for our kids to get marijuana - and for criminals to reap the profits". Legalization of marijuana in Canada may complicate those efforts, especially since one of America's major concerns already is marijuana flowing in from Canada. The act was later passed by the House of Commons in November.

The parents or god-parents of the child look to be in disbelief as the priest begins to pull the child close to him once again. Another added: "God forgive me, the priest was getting kicked up and down the chapel like a football if that was my child".

Bill C-46, a companion bill that Wilson-Raybould predicts will give Canada the strongest impaired-driving rules in the world, will also become law "in the near future", she said.

Speaking today, Trudeau said: "We have been talking about this since well before we formed government".

They will also be allowed to purchase plants and seeds from regulated retailers.

"We applaud Canada for showing federal legislators in the United States what can be accomplished with true leadership and dedication to sound public policy", Altieri said in a statement.

'When you normalise the use of marijuana and you're a young person and you had certain reservations because of the simple fact that it was illegal, there's, I believe, a propensity to have somebody be more inclined to use it'.

Based on consumption data from past year, Statistics Canada has estimated that the market will be worth Can$5.7 billion (€3.7 billion).

ABC reported that the most controversial aspect of the process has been setting the minimum age for use at 18 or 19, depending on the province - lower than in U.S. states that have embraced legalisation.
