United States will 'absolutely' sanction European companies that do business with Iran

The Trump administration is claiming some early success in its quest to cripple Iran with sanctions in order to drag it back to negotiations and change its behavior, even as it softens its demand on US allies to reduce their Iranian oil imports to zero. Tehran, however, vowed on Sunday to foil any United States bid to block its oil exports.

In particular, the administration points to a recent announcement by Saudi Arabia to increase oil production, with President Trump tweeting Saturday that the country's leader King Salman agreed to increase oil production by 2 million barrels.

Oil prices had risen on Friday on worries that USA sanctions against Iran would take away significant volumes of crude oil from world markets while oil demand worldwide increases. Trump continued, "prices too high!"

On Fox, Trump directed blame at the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, of which Saudi Arabia is a member.

"Iran will offer its oil in the stock market, and the private sector can transparently buy and sell the crude through this market", Jahangiri added. Despite almost reaching a deal with the Germans, French, and British, President Trump dismissed their progress and withdrew the US from the landmark nuclear accord anyway. Earlier this year, to the chagrin of European partners, Trump said he would pull the United States out of the Iran nuclear agreement secured by world powers.

In a briefing with reporters, that official said Washington probably would not grant waivers from secondary sanctions against foreign companies that continue to do business with Iran. "Of course. That's what we're doing, absolutely", he said.

Marc Stein of the New York Times reported Dallas was making him their top priority after he declined his option with the Clippers. The big man was deliberating over the decision until Friday's deadline where he had to inform the franchise of his choice.

Iran vowed Sunday to defeat USA efforts to block its oil exports and warned rival producer Saudi Arabia it would never take Tehran's "place" on the worldwide oil market.

Iran will allow private companies to export crude oil, part of a strategy to counter USA sanctions, and is urging fellow OPEC members, including regional rival Saudi Arabia, not to break output agreements, state media and officials said on Sunday.

The U.S. wants to reduce Iran's oil revenue to zero, the State Department director of policy planning said Monday. It's awful what they do to us, he said.

Jahangiri greeted Trump's comments with derision, saying: "They're begging the Saudis to raise their output so that if Iran's quota decreases nothing will happen to the markets".

"Our focus is on getting as many countries importing Iranian crude down to zero as soon as possible", Hook said - a slight step back from what a senior State Department official who briefed reporters last week said, that all allies must be at zero imports by November 4.
