Novak Djokovic blasts unfair treatment during Wimbledon quarter-final win

Novak Djokovic speaks out on narrowly escaping Wimbledon scheduling nightmare

Novak Djokovic returned to a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time since 2016 after recording a hard-fought win over Kei Nishikori at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

The 12-time major victor defeated Kei Nishikori 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 on Centre Court to set up a clash on Friday with either world No 1 Rafael Nadal or Juan Martin del Potro.

But the 12-times major victor regained his cool sufficiently enough to safely take his place in the semi-finals for the first time since snaring his third title at The All England Club in 2015.

Defending champion Federer lost a Court One thriller, 2-6, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-4, 13-11 as 32-year-old Anderson became the first South African in the Wimbledon semifinals since Kevin Curren in 1983.

"It felt like it was getting better and better as matches and time went on. Sometimes that's what you need to, I guess, be more alert on the court".

Novak Djokovic felt he was a different player to the Wimbledon victor of old but comparisons were inevitable on Wednesday as the Serb rolled into the semi-finals for the first time since 2015. "I feel like I'm peaking at the right moment", said Djokovic, who booked a place in a Grand Slam semi for the first time since the 2016 U.S. Open.

"To be honest, I thought it was unnecessary to get a warning".

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex - otherwise known as Prince Harry and the former Meghan Markle - were also present at the ceremony. Kate arrived holding a sleeping Prince Louis in her arms, while William looked after Prince George and Princess Charlotte .

Nishikori had to survive heavy attack on his serve early in the second as Djokovic smelled blood, saving four break points, which included a 0-40 game.

This is a 32nd Grand Slam semi-final appearance for Djokovic, although there was some doubt he would reach that mark. He broke to 30 and then served out for a dramatic victory. His troublesome elbow needed attention at the start of the third set, but even as Djokovic looked like he was on the verge he continued to push and prod him around the court.

'I didn't harm the grass. Despite handing back an early break in the opening set, Djokovic broke again for 5-3 and then wrapped up the set.

His frustrations doubled up after Nishikori did the same in the fourth set but didn't pick a violation, much to the dismay of Djokovic. "I think the fact that you have Wimbledon around the corner (after the French Open) helps because you don't have time really to feel sorry about yourself".

"Down two sets to love I just tried my best to keep fighting and scraped through the third and fourth set", Anderson said after the match, per Wimbledon's website.

Eight-time champion Federer has already won more Wimbledon singles titles than any other man, but was aiming to equal Martina Navratilova's all-time record. I don't want to stop here.
