USA salmonella outbreak: 'Do not eat Honey Smacks,' shoppers told

FDA: Retailers cannot legally sell Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal following recall

The US Food and Drug Administration urged consumers on Thursday to avoid eating and retailers to not sell Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal because of the chance of salmonella contamination.

The FDA is sending out this reminder because it has learned some retailers are still selling the cereal.

After the outbreak was discovered, Kellogg issued a recall in June of packages with "best if used by dates" ranging from June 14, 20018, through June 14, 2019. A case count map breaks down the location and prevalence of cases, the first of which was reported in early March. The agency revealed that 27 more people from 19 states were infected from the outbreak since the last update on June 14.

The statement said salmonella strains had been found in both unopened and leftover samples of Honey Smacks at several locations. Florida has two people sick.

If you store cereal that looks like Kellogg's Honey Smacks in a container without the packaging and don't remember the brand or type, throw it away.

It'll be a special occasion, lovely to play Russian Federation like it was attractive to play [2014 hosts] Brazil last time. However, May is likely to overturn her own decision should the Three Lions reach the final tournament later this week.

The CDC tweeted: "Do not eat this cereal".

"Ill people range in age from less than one year to 95, with a median age of 57". The CDC reported that the outbreak has now impacted people in over 33 states. About 1.2 percent of people infected get severe diarrhea that leads to hospitalization.

Symptoms usually begin within a week after exposure to the bacteria.

Most individuals who are infected with salmonella show signs and symptoms between 12 and 72 hours after being exposed, the CDC said.

Most people recover without treatment, however.
