Brexit: Michel Barnier knocks back PM’s Chequers plan

Michel Barnier

But despite the doomsday talk of shortages of vital supplies after Brexit, May says the public should take "reassurance and comfort" from the government's preparations for the eventuality of a no-deal Brexit.

Mr Barnier told him that, while the commitment to a financial settlement made by Mrs May in December was not yet in its final legal form, the 27 remaining EU members and European Parliament regard it as "agreed for good".

In comments on British politics, President Trump also said former foreign minister Boris Johnson, who resigned this week over the BREXIT plan and is seen as a potential challenger to May, would make "a great Prime Minister".

In a message to Brussels, Mr Raab added: "We have considered the innovative approaches the European Union has taken in the past with other third countries - when the political will has been there".

"The EU can not - and will not - delegate the application of its customs policy and rules, Value-Added Tax and excise duty collection to a non-member, who would not be subject to the EU's governance structures", Barnier said.

Millstone says: 'It is vital, in the context of negotiating and enacting Brexit, that the Food Standards Agency, and the United Kingdom government more generally, avoid any decisions, proposals or actions, that could adversely affect food safety standards in the United Kingdom or the reputation of the UK's food supply'.

But Mr Barnier said retaining control of the money, law and borders also applied to the EU's customs policy.

Midfielder Ramsey unsure of Arsenal future
Arsenal missed out on a Champions League spot for the second successive season to force the Gunners board to make a change. The Wales worldwide , who joined the club in 2008, is in the final year of his contract.

"This is indeed an important issue that we take seriously and will require preparedness", Andreeva said.

LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO - Liam Fox has warned Theresa May that extending Brexit negotiations would be a "complete betrayal" of Brexit voters, telling Business Insider that the prime minister should commit to instead leaving the European Union with no deal. He is, however, seriously concerned about much of the details of the plan. "Those plans are ambitious, principled and pragmatic.", insisted Raab.

By the fall, it will become clearer whether the Brexit project is on target for meeting the result of the 2016 referendum which made it clear the majority wanted Britain to leave the EU. "I am committed to injecting new energy into these talks, along with Michel".

The EU now aims to wrap up negotiations in October-to allow time to put the deal to lawmakers and member states ahead of the official day of the UK's departure from the trading bloc on March 29.

"What the Commission seems to be saying is look, there has to be Brexit on their terms, or no deal at all", Fox said. It has expired. It has ceased to be.

Mr Grieve said he did not believe Mrs May is at risk, but added: "The only group that could possibly bring the Prime Minister down is if the group of my hard Brexit colleagues so lose the plot that they decide that is an effective way for them to proceed".
