Trump ex-campaign head Manafort to cooperate in Russian Federation probe

Paul Manafort to plead guilty as part of plea deal with special counsel

The president's personal lawyer, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, has argued, however, that a plea agreement between Manafort and the special counsel does not affect Trump because his former campaign chairman has nothing compromising to say about the president.

The result also ensures that the investigation will extend far beyond the November congressional elections despite entreaties from the president's lawyer that Mueller bring his probe to a close.

He's also indicted former Manafort business associate Konstantin Kilimnik, now believed to be in Russia, for obstruction of justice and 25 Russian nationals and three Russian companies for interfering in the U.S. 2016 presidential election.

It's true that nothing public in Mueller's investigation so far has touched Trump on the central questions of collusion with Russian Federation or obstruction of justice.

In pleading guilty, Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, would admit he broke the law - a concession he refused to make throughout his Alexandria trial and since he was charged almost a year ago in Washington.

Still, Friday's move gives Mueller another successful conviction while allowing Manafort to avoid facing another costly public trial. On Friday morning, however, that refusal came to an abrupt end. Mueller has also gotten guilty pleas from former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos, while Trump's longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen pleaded guilty in a case referred to the Southern District of NY by Mueller's office.

In the courtroom, Manafort stared straight ahead, while Weissman read a condensed version of the litany of illegal acts to which Manafort is pleading guilty.

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort has pleaded guilty to two federal charges as part of a cooperation deal with prosecutors. "He has accepted responsibility", Manafort attorney Kevin Downing told reporters outside of D.C. District Court after the plea hearing.

"(Trump), like the rest of us, will have to wait to see how damaging Manafort's cooperation will be", Wright said.

He was among the participants, for instance, in a June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Russians and Trump's oldest son and son-in-law that was arranged for the campaign to receive derogatory information about Democrat Hillary Clinton. "And Kilimnik was formerly Manafort's longtime business associate - and possibly has ties to Russian intelligence", Ward wrote.

Palestinian Envoy: Trump Admin Gave Us One Month to Dismantle Washington Mission
Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) called the measure a "New Year's gift" to Israel and the Jewish people. A week earlier, the administration slashed bilateral US aid for projects in the West Bank and Gaza.

Trump had discussed pardoning Manafort, but that hadn't happened.

Manafort served briefly as then-candidate Donald Trump's campaign manager in 2016.

Even though Manafort and the Trump legal team were operating under a joint defence agreement, in which they would share relevant information, it appears the details of the deal caught Mr Trump's side flat-footed.

Under the terms of the deal, Manafort was allowed to plead guilty to just two conspiracy counts, though the crimes he admitted cover the same conduct alleged in an indictment previous year.

The White House tried to dismiss the Manfort news.

Prosecutors will drop the five remaining charges in DC federal court against Manafort, including money laundering, tax fraud, failing to disclose foreign bank accounts, violating federal foreign lobbying law and lying to the Department of Justice.

Two years after being forced from his position as chair of Donald Trump's presidential campaign, 10 months removed from his indictment on multiple counts of unregistered foreign lobbying and financial fraud, and just days before his second trial was set to begin, Paul Manafort has thrown in the towel. Prosecutors said they had to examine whether Russia-backed politicians and oligarchs served as a back channel to Russian Federation in the campaign.

Another allegation revealed Friday concerns Manafort's efforts to peddle stories to discredit Yanukovych's opponent, Yulia Tymoshenko, and undermine USA government support for her. In summary, he said later, this is a big victory for Mueller.

"I have someone pushing it on the NY Post". But the court filing says Manafort admits to the actions.
