The contrasts of Mexico’s southern and northern borders

Mother in caravan Trump has to receive

It was not immediately clear where the additional travelers had materialized from since about 2,000 gathered on the Mexican side Saturday night.

"We will now begin cutting off, or substantially reducing, the massive foreign aid" that the United States gives Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, said the president - who has seized upon the crisis in the run-up to U.S. midterm elections, reviving the immigrant-bashing rhetoric that helped get him elected in 2016.

"Si se pudo!" they chanted in Spanish - "Yes, we did!"

Mexican villagers have organized to offer them water, food and clothing.

The american president Donald Trump thanked, Saturday, October 20, the mexican authorities for their efforts to block the caravan.

Maria Teresa Orellana, a resident of Lorenzo, handed out sandals. He added that planes would be used to fly children back home. She wants to reach the U.S. but would stay in Mexico if she could find work here.

One of the migrants marching to Ciudad Hidalgo, Luis Miguel Martinez, 30, also said his goal was to find work in the United States so he could feed his family, including two daughters he left behind in Honduras.

He took to Twitter to blame the courts for "asking the U.S. to do things that are not doable".

"We thought the caravan was passive but there were unruly people, I was disappointed", said Gonzalo Martinez, a 37-year-old farmer, as he boarded a bus in Tecun Uman, Guatemala to take him back to Honduras. Migrants continued to hang on the gates, yelling "there are children here" and "we are hungry". "Both leaders had spoken by phone with Peña Nieto and U.S. Vice President Mike Pence to discuss humanitarian aid and efforts to help people who want to return".

Garcia said he had seen cases of swollen, lacerated and infected feet.

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that his administration was doing all it can to prevent the migrant caravan from crossing the border into Mexico, warning that his government would not allow them to enter the US. They voted by a show of hands to continue north en masse, then marched to the bridge crossing the Suchiate River and urged those still on it to join them.

In a statement on Saturday night, Mexico's federal government said "nearly 900 migrants" had arrived by unauthorized means, while 640 had been processed after being allowed to cross into the country via the worldwide border crossing on the Suchite River that divides Guatemala from Mexico. The advances have overwhelmed Mexican officials' attempts to stop them at the border. Some paid locals the equivalent of $1.25 United States to ferry them across the muddy waters.

Governments are willing to skim off the wealthy and better-educated who they feel can contribute to their societies, but slam the door shut on the ordinary refugees.

"One can not live back there", said Fidelina Vasquez, a grandmother traveling with her daughter and 2-year-old grandson, standing next to the main border gate.

Trump accused the matter to be a leftist stunt orchestrated to take advantage of the situation with the faltering situation behind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Act.

Late Tuesday, Trump said via Twitter that Washington had told Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador that the US will stop aid "if they allow their citizens, or others, to journey through their borders and up to the United States, with the intention of entering our country illegally".

Mexico's Interior Department said in a statement that it had received 640 refugee requests by Hondurans at the border crossing.

Brenda Ochoa, a member of the Center for Human Rights Fray Matias de Cordova, part of a group of local organizations monitoring the caravan, said Monday morning that numerous caravan members already have been deported to their home countries. The 1,500-strong caravan organized by Pueblo sin Fronteras claimed their mission was to "provide shelter and safety to migrants and refugees in transit, accompany them in their journey, and together demand respect for our human rights".

In interviews along the journey, migrants have said they are fleeing widespread violence, poverty and corruption in Honduras.

Among the people in the procession was Juan Carlos García García, 16, from Honduras, where he had been a laborer in the coffee fields. "We just want to move ahead with our lives", he said Sunday. He said he'd do any kind of work.

Sections of the crowd hurled rocks and other objects at hundreds of riot police, who responded with rubber bullets and tear gas-stalling the caravan determined to reach the United States.
