Second wave of USA sanctions on Iran starts tomorrow

Goldman Sachs Brent to hit $80 before year-end

The move by the White House re-imposes USA sanctions that were lifted as part of a 2015 multinational deal with Tehran and impose hundreds of additional sanctions created to hit Iran's key economic sectors - including oil and gas, shipping and banking.

The U.S. reimposed oil and financial sanctions against Iran on Monday, significantly turning up the pressure on Tehran in order to curb its missile and nuclear programs and counter its growing military and political influence in the Middle East.

Iran will continue to export its oil and will break the sanctions reinstated by the United States on Monday, the nation's leader Hassan Rouhani said in a TV address, Reuters reports. The other signatories to the nuclear deal have demanded that Iran accede to the FATF.

"The expected United States waiver for India is a good development that should allow the country to continue getting its share of oil on attractive terms from Iran".

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday announced exemptions for eight countries, without naming them.

For example, the USA does not want to have India and South Korea move geopolitically closer to China, Russia and other competitors and away from its influence.

Mr Rouhani, meanwhile, pledged that Iran would overcome the sanctions.

"Thank you President Trump for this historic action".

Amazon to roll out free shipping to everyone during 2018 holiday season
Amazon also said Monday that it has expanded the number of items and locations where Prime members can get free same-day delivery. Target last month raised the stakes for the all-important holiday shopping rush, offering US customers free two-day shipping.

Thousands of Iranians chanted "death to America" at a rally in Tehran yesterday as the country's leaders remained defiant in the last hours before fresh USA sanctions came into force. Iran is the world's No. 3 oil exporter. But he said the eight unidentified nations "need a little bit more time to get to zero".

The impact of the sanctions was felt early on, with their announcement in May driving many companies to abandon Iran, causing the value of its currency to plummet. "The tougher they are on us, the more resistant we become".

The UK, Germany and France - which are among the five countries still committed to the nuclear pact - have all objected to the sanctions, the BBC said.

South Korea, one of Asia's biggest buyers of Iranian oil, last week asked the United States for "maximum flexibility" after some of its construction firms cancelled energy-related contracts in the Islamic Republic because of financing difficulties. "These sanctions hit at the core areas of Iran's economy, and they are necessary to spur changes we seek on the part of the regime".

Saudi Arabia is the only country with the capacity to make up for lost Iranian oil production.

In all, 700 Iranian entities will be added to sanctions lists on Monday, according to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. The deal limited Iran's enrichment of uranium.

The 444-day crisis after the fall of the US -allied shah transfixed America, as nightly images of blindfolded hostages played on television sets across the nation.

Trump said the deal, approved by predecessor Barack Obama, was weak and flawed in Iran's favour.
